Eden Hazard faces yet another spell on the sidelines after the Real Madrid winger suffered a thigh injured that will rule him out for three weeks.
The Belgian, who cost Real an initial £88million when they signed him from Chelsea in 2019, has managed to play just six matches this season amid injury issues and a positive coronavirus test.
This is the eighth injury blow Hazard, 29, has suffered since making his move to the Bernabeu.
Eden Hazard will miss three weeks of action with a thigh injury picked up against Alaves
The Belgian left the action after 28 minutes of Real’s 2-1 home defeat to Alaves on Saturday
His latest setback came in Real’s 2-1 home defeat to Alaves on Saturday night when he left the action after just 28 minutes.
An ultrasound test on Sunday proved inconclusive so Hazard was sent for an MRI scan on Monday. This confirmed a problem with the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg.
‘Following tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg,’ a club statement said.
‘His recovery will continue to be assessed.’
The expected three-week recovery will see Hazard absent for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Shakhtar Donetsk, this Saturday’s LaLiga visit to Sevilla, the concluding Champions League group game against Borussia Monchengladbach on December 9 and the derby with Atletico Madrid on December 12.

Hazard grimaces in pain shortly before being taken off during Saturday’s league fixture
It’s another setback for Real manager Zinedine Zidane who has seen his £88million star suffer repeated injury issues since joining from Chelsea
Games he could miss
Tuesday Shakhtar Donetsk (A)
Saturday Sevilla (A) LaLiga
December 9 Borussia Monchengladbach (H)
December 12 Atletico Madrid (H) LaLiga
It will come as a frustration for the Belgian, who had started Real’s last three matches and performed well in the draw with Villarreal and the win over Inter Milan.
Hazard’s debut season in Spain saw him play just 22 matches in all competitions and score just one goal after being plagued by injury issues.
His debut following his move from Chelsea was delayed by a hamstring issue. He suffered a bruised ankle in late November and then a hairline crack in his right fibula that saw him miss 15 matches.
A less serious fibula issue kept him out of three games in March before the Covid-19 lockdown.
He was able to feature more often when the season resumed but picked up another knock in July and missed two matches.
This season saw him miss the first eight matches with two other injury issues before a positive coronavirus test kept him out for two weeks.
In all, Hazard has missed 35 games through injury since arriving in Madrid.
