Newcastle have made an enquiry about signing Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien.
The 24-year-old is valued at around £20million by the French club and has also attracted attention from Tottenham.
Steve Bruce will tell Mike Ashley he needs to sanction another big-money signing if he is to improve Newcastle’s team, with the owner expected on Tyneside for a belated transfer summit.

Supporters have reacted with frustration after Bruce revealed that Ashley will make his first visit to the training ground since August and they are questioning why a meeting was not arranged sooner.
The pair will discuss potential incomings after a run of one point from four matches has left the injury-ravaged Magpies looking over their shoulder.
Ashley has always invested in January should he feel the club’s Premier League status is in jeopardy – he signed off £21m Miguel Almiron 12 months ago – and his decision to call a meeting with Bruce is telling.
