‘If he wants to leave, he can go’: Fiorentina owner insists Liverpool and Juventus target Federico Chiesa can exit club as he says he ‘wants leaders like Paolo Maldini and Francesco Totti’

- Commisso is searching for ‘leaders’ to drag Viola away from the relegation zone
- Chiesa’s father, a former Italy international, is discussing a move with Commisso
Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso has revealed he is open to selling star player Federico Chiesa this month, with the club looking to sign more ‘leaders’ in the transfer window.
Winger Chiesa has scored three goals and provided five assists in 16 appearances this term, but Commisso would be willing to offload the player should he want to depart Stadio Artemio Franchi. The club are struggling in 15th place in Serie A.
The 22-year-old has also emulated his father Enrico by making 17 appearances for the Italy national team, and Commisso has been discussing a potential transfer with Chiesa snr, who scored 45 goals during three seasons in Florence.

‘I have already spoken to his father Enrico,’ Commisso told Lady Radio. ‘I have come here to Florence seven times since I bought Fiorentina and we’ve seen each other many times.
‘I have been talking to Enrico and Federico. If he wants to leave, he can go, but only if there is an offer in favour of Fiorentina.
‘I’d like to have players who can become leaders like (Gaetano) Scirea, (Franco) Baresi, (Paolo) Maldini, (Fulvio) Collovati, (Francesco) Totti or (Giancarlo) Antognini.’
Liverpool are thought to be monitoring Chiesa’s progress with a view to a future move, but the Reds are unlikely to sign another attacking player after the arrival of Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg.
Reports in Italy also claim Serie A title-chasers Juventus and Inter Milan are considering a move should Chiesa refuse to extend his Fiorentina contract beyond the end of the 2021-22 season.
